There are some special features to avoid losing the pins. You will notice that there is an additional R-Clip hole at the handle end of each pivot pin. The process is to remove the R-clip from the upper security pin. And then insert the R-clip through the hole near the handle section of the security pin. That avoids losing the R-Clip. Then insert the pin and R-Clip assembly into one of the holes in the main beam. That avoids losing the pin. If the R-Clip is not in the handle end, the pin falls straight through. Before you take off, cast an eye over the carrier and if the pin’s still in the main beam. It will stand out. If you have removed the main beam altogether, fit the pins back into the pivot base so that you know they will always be there. With people who have more than one pivot base, it is easy to swap the main beam around and always have pins at the read on the receiving pivot base.
