This Toyota Hilux dual cab bike rack got its shakedown run the way we like them: straight to the Fat Tyre Festival at Melrose, South Australia’s mountain biking town at the foot of Mount Remarkable. Daniel’s Extreme Duty Two Bicycle Carrier went on the tow bar, two trail bikes went in the cradles, and his report back was one word where it counts, flawless.

On a dual cab ute the carrier earns its keep by leaving the tub alone. No bikes lying on their sides in the tray, no tailgate pads scuffing the paint, no wrestling a heavy bike over the side. Each bike stands upright in its own wheel support cradles, held by a frame support cradle behind the tailgate, rated at up to 32kg per bike with 64kg total on the 400mm beam, which keeps the pair close to the vehicle for daily driving. Daniel also thanked us for getting the system to him quickly, which we managed because pre-configured Hilux fitments are a pattern we manufacture again and again. The Hilux tow bar geometry is dialled in, so a standard configuration ships fast.
