Jayco Expanda

This Jayco Expanda rear bike rack takes the road less travelled: instead of the drawbar, the Extreme Duty 4x4x4 carrier mounts to a purpose-engineered bar at the rear of an Expanda Outback Pop Top, keeping the drawbar free and the bikes clear of the bed ends. The same carrier, manufactured by iSi, also drops onto the Toyota Prado’s tow bar mount.

Rear mounting on a caravan is only as good as the structure behind it. This installation runs a steel tube through the rear bar, tied to the chassis cross members underneath with additional bracing each side, work done by a certified engineering workshop in Sydney. With that structure in place, the carrier swings up and down cleanly even with the Expanda’s fold-out bed ends above it, and has covered around 24,000km including 3,000km of corrugated dirt. A word on rear mounting

A four bike load at the rear of a van must be fully engineered to take the load; it is not a bolt-to-the-bumper job. Talk to the sales team before planning one. Each cradle carries up to 32kg, with the Four Bike Rack Assembly rated to 84kg in total. The same system suits other models in the Prado lineup, shown on our Prado bike rack page.
