This Toyota 4Runner hitch bike rack solved a problem no off-the-shelf American rack could: carrying a long travel mountain bike with an atypical frame behind a 4×4 wearing an aftermarket rear bumper, spare tyre carrier and cooler rack. iSi configured an Extreme Duty 4x4x2 on an extended beam, checked it against the customer’s own measurements, and shipped it from Victoria to the USA.

The extended beam is what makes the aftermarket bumper workable, carrying both cradles far enough back to clear the spare and the bumper’s hardware. Because iSi cradles hold the wheels rather than the frame, the odd angles of a modern freeride frame make no difference at all. The carrier pivots up with the bikes loaded, and the rear of the 4Runner keeps working the way its owner intended. Owners of other vehicles can start with the full tow bar bike rack range.

Capacity and fit

Each cradle takes up to 32kg with room for a 1600mm wheelbase and tyres to 5.1 inches, which covers seven inch travel bikes, fat bikes and everything between. The Two Bike Rack Assembly, with a 64kg capacity.
