Colorado ZR2

This Colorado ZR2 bike rack earned its review in the Montana backcountry. Tim’s Extreme Duty Two Bicycle Carrier, installed with fatbike cradles, rode the hitch of his Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 onto rugged mountain trails at 7,500 feet, and his report covers both ends of the spectrum: severe trail sections where the rack never touched ground, and 70 mph highway running where the bike never moved.

The ZR2 is Chevrolet’s factory off road Colorado, and Tim’s numbers tell the geometry story: the rack’s roughly 40 degree clearance angle let him use the truck’s full departure capability without the carrier striking on drop offs. That is deliberate, the beam and mount are dimensioned to sit high and tight rather than hanging low behind the receiver. The feature that drew a crowd at the fuel stop is the one owners use most: the carrier lowers with the bike still attached, giving tailgate and canopy access without unloading. Simplicity, as Tim put it, is wonderful. The Two Bike Carrier is rated to 64kg.
