Kimberley Kamper

This Kimberley Kamper drawbar bike rack carries two bikes on the front of Matt’s Kimberley Kamper, using a mount system built specifically for the Kimberley chassis rather than a generic drawbar fitting.

Kimberley Kampers do not leave much room to work with. The drawbar carries the stone guard, the jerry can holders and the gas bottles, and the box section sits at a height and width that a standard H-Mount does not suit. We manufactured a Kimberley Kamper specific drawbar mount that bolts directly to the chassis, then installed a Two Bike Rack Assembly and a StrongArm Support Post to carry it.

The StrongArm Support Post is what makes the front of a camper a sensible place to put bikes. It transfers the load down into the chassis instead of leaving it hanging off the mount, and it spreads the weight roughly 70 percent onto the tow ball and 30 percent onto the axles. That split keeps the camper stable and keeps the load off the back of the tow vehicle, where it would otherwise sit a long way behind the axle.

Loaded, the two bike assembly is rated to 32kg with 16kg allowed per bike. When Matt needs to get into the front of the camper, the whole assembly pivots up loaded, without tools and without taking the bikes off first, so the stone guard, the gas bottles and the drawbar storage stay reachable.
