Land Rover Defender

This Land Rover Defender bike rack travelled the furthest from home of almost any we have built: manufactured in Melbourne, shipped to Europe, and now touring remote corners of the continent on a customer’s Defender. It runs an Extreme Duty Two Bicycle Carrier on a PBW/R tow bar pivot base, modified to fit a European receiver.

Adapting an Australian carrier to European towing took two changes, both straightforward. The pivot base was matched to the European coupling system and attached to a Dixon Bate tow ball, and a license plate holder with integrated lighting in Defender style was added to keep everything road legal on the other side of the world. Beyond that, it is the same rigid, frame held cradle system we send to the Gibb River Road.

The owner’s report captures why iSi carriers travel so well: it works fantastically, the system is amazingly easy to use, and it drew constant questions on the road. His one puzzle was that friends hesitated to order from Australia at all, a hesitation his own Defender now quietly answers. Each bike rides in its own cradle at up to 32kg, rated to 64kg total.

Every system is manufactured in Mitcham, Victoria, as they have been since 2007, from Australian mild steel and stainless steel, zinc primed and finished in textured Dulux powder coat, and covered by a lifetime warranty that ships worldwide.
