This Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro bike rack earns its photos. Duane’s shots come from the sandy canyons of Anza Borrego Desert State Park in California, roof top tent up top, two mountain bikes on the Extreme Duty Two Bicycle Carrier behind, and desert grit over everything. It is exactly the environment this carrier was engineered for, on the other side of the Pacific from where we built it.

The 4Runner TRD Pro is Toyota’s factory off roader, and a rack that rattles or sags has no place behind one. The iSi system mounts rigidly to the hitch, holds each bike by the frame in its own cradle, and carries up to 32kg per bike, so rough tracks like the ones in these photos do not translate into swaying bikes or scratched paint. Duane’s message came with a request that says more than any review: a quote for the two bike extension, because the road bikes now want to come along too. The modular design takes a two bike system to four without replacing the carrier, which is how an iSi grows with the rider rather than being outgrown.
