Guardian SUV Camper Trailer
Extreme Duty Four Bike Carrier, Drawbar Mounted, Shared with a Ford Ranger XLT
The Solution
This Guardian SUV Camper Trailer bike rack carries four bikes between two mounting points: the camper’s drawbar for touring, and the Ford Ranger XLT’s tow bar for everything else. The Extreme Duty 4x4x4 carrier, manufactured by iSi, bolts to whichever is doing the day’s work.
The Guardian SUV is a compact off road camper, and drawbar space is tight, which is where the iSi mounting geometry earns its keep. The four cradles sit low and central over the drawbar with the load split roughly 70% to the tow ball and 30% through the axle, and the carrier pivots upright with all four bikes loaded so the camper’s front storage stays reachable. Swapping to the Ranger takes a couple of minutes and no tools.
Capacity and fit
The Four Bike Rack Assembly, and carries up to 84kg, each cradle rated to 32kg with room for a 1600mm wheelbase and 5.1 inch tyres. Four bikes for four riders, none of them touching the camper’s canvas or the ute’s tailgate.
