Land Rover Discovery 5

This Land Rover Discovery 5 bike rack is an Extreme Duty Two Bicycle Carrier, manufactured for Will’s Discovery 5 on a tow bar mount with a 400mm beam. Will is a touring rider, and his photos show something most racks cannot do: a bike carried with the panniers still installed, bags and all.

That is a function of how the iSi carrier holds a bike. Each bike sits in its own cradle secured by the frame, not hung by the top tube, so a loaded touring bike with panniers, a seat pack and a handlebar bag rides exactly as it is packed. At 32kg per bike the rating absorbs a fully loaded tourer without a second thought, and the carrier tilts down to ground level, which makes loading a heavy bike a lower back friendly exercise rather than a lift and hope. On a Discovery 5 the geometry also matters at the tailgate. The mount positions the carrier so the powered tailgate opens over the rack, keeping the boot usable on tour. The Two Bike Carrier is rated to 64kg, manufactured from Australian mild steel and stainless steel, zinc primed and powder coated in a textured Dulux finish.
