Jayco Eagle

This Jayco Eagle bike rack is an Extreme Duty Four Bike Rack Assembly on a Jayco Touring Camper Drawbar Mount, manufactured for Peter’s Eagle Touring with a second mount for the family’s VW Amarok. Four bikes travel behind the camper on the big trips, and the same carrier moves to the Amarok’s tow bar for rides away from the campsite, including a day at Dubbo Zoo that made it into Peter’s photos.

The configuration proved itself on a Red Centre run. Partway through the trip Peter realised his configuration needed an alteration, so we manufactured the part in Melbourne, painted it and freighted it ahead, and it was waiting at his caravan park when he arrived in Alice Springs. That is the advantage of dealing with the manufacturer rather than an importer: the person who built your rack can build the part that adapts it. On the Eagle the drawbar mount splits the load roughly 70% to the tow ball and 30% to the axle, and the carrier pivots upright with all four bikes loaded, so the camper sets up at overnight stops without unloading. On the Amarok, the geometry keeps both the tailgate and the canopy’s rear door swinging free with the carrier installed. The 700mm beam Four Bike Carrier is rated to 84kg and carries up to 32kg per bike.

Every system is manufactured in Mitcham, Victoria, as they have been since 2007, from Australian mild steel and stainless steel, zinc primed and finished in a textured Dulux powder coat, and covered by a lifetime warranty.
