The Solution

The MDC XT16HR East West is a compact off-road camper, and fitting a secure two-bike carrier to its short drawbar takes a system engineered for exactly that space. This build shows how a fully bolt-on solution can deliver strength, everyday usability and a clean finish without compromising the camper.

For this configuration we mounted a two-bike rack to the MDC XT16HR using a 100% bolt-on mounting system, so there is no drilling or welding to the chassis. The layout was carefully planned to make the most of the tight drawbar area while keeping the front toolbox and hitch fully accessible. Every MDC we have installed is listed on the MDC bike rack page.

The carrier sits low and close to the chassis, which keeps the centre of gravity down and improves towing stability over both blacktop and rough tracks. With the bikes held firmly in place, movement is minimised and the whole load stays composed at highway speed and on corrugated back roads alike.

Tool-free pivoting lets the loaded rack swing clear of the drawbar whenever access to the front toolbox is needed, so the camper stays as practical to live with as it was before the rack went on. The platform carries up to two bikes at 32kg per bike, with the load tied back to the drawbar through an adjustable H-Mount and a StrongArm support post for a rock-solid base.

The finished result is a clean, durable MDC XT16HR two-bike rack that offers a reliable, space-efficient way to bring the bikes along while preserving full use of the camper on every trip.
