Toyota Land Cruiser 80 Series
Two Bike Rack Assembly and Tow Bar Mount System, Clearing a Kaymar Wheel Carrier
“Thanks for all your help, a fantastic Australian made product!”
The Solution
This Kaymar wheel carrier bike rack configuration answers a question we hear from serious tourers all the time: can a bike carrier live behind a rear bar and swing away wheel carrier? On David’s Toyota Land Cruiser 80 Series the answer is a 600mm beam Extreme Duty Two Bicycle Carrier on the tow bar, dimensioned so the Kaymar carrier and the bikes never argue over the same space.
The 600mm beam is the key. It stands the carrier off far enough to clear the spare wheel on the Kaymar swing arm while keeping the load as close to the vehicle as the clearance allows, which is how you protect handling on a fully built touring truck. The bikes themselves tell the second story: one of them is an e-mountain bike, and at 32kg per bike capacity the iSi cradles take e-bike weight without the sag and swing that breaks lesser racks.
David’s verdict was short and to the point: a fantastic Australian made product. That is the whole pitch. The Two Bike Carrier is rated to 64kg, and is manufactured from Australian mild steel and stainless steel, zinc primed and finished in textured Dulux powder coat.
