Wedgetail Camper

Two Bike Off Road Carrier, 800mm Extended Beam, on a Tow Bar Mount System

The Solution

This Wedgetail Camper bike rack solves one of the harder mounting problems in the touring world: carrying bikes behind a slide-on camper with a long rear overhang. iSi configured a 4x4x2 off road carrier on an 800mm extended beam, mounted through a tow bar mount system under the tray of a Toyota Land Cruiser.

The 800mm beam is the longest standoff in the range, and it is exactly what a Wedgetail needs. The extra reach carries both bikes clear of the camper’s overhang, while the off road rated carrier keeps them secure on the kind of remote tracks a touring vehicle like this is meant to travel. The carrier pivots up with the bikes loaded, and lifts off the mount entirely when the camper stays home. We install the same carrier on other LandCruiser models, and the LandCruiser bike racks range has the details.

Capacity and fit

Each cradle takes up to 32kg with room for a 1600mm wheelbase and tyres to 5.1 inches, so heavy touring bikes and mountain bikes travel equally well. The load rides low behind the tray, split across the mount rather than hanging off the camper itself. Every vehicle we have installed a system on starts from the tow bar bike rack range.

iSi has manufactured every system in Mitcham, Victoria since 2007 from Australian mild steel and stainless steel, zinc primed with a textured Dulux powder coat finish, and each one carries a lifetime warranty. The pre-configured vehicle carriers cover standard vehicles, and the sales team can configure extended beam systems like this one for trays and overhangs.
