Toyota Land Cruiser 40 Series

This Land Cruiser 40 Series bike rack had a rougher brief than most: a short wheelbase, 35 year old suspension with no interest in comfort, and a conventional rack that was slowly beating both the bikes and the car to death. iSi configured an Extreme Duty 4x4x2 on an extended beam, mounted through a tow bar mount system, and the beating stopped.

The cradle design does the work here. Each bike sits by its wheels in its own cradle, isolated from the chatter an old solid axle transmits through the chassis, and the extended beam holds the bikes clear of the rear-mounted spare and high enough to survive real four wheel driving. Dust and stones off the back of the car pass under the bikes rather than through them, and the carrier pivots up loaded when the back of the Cruiser needs to open. Getting the beam length right

Beam length matters on a vehicle like this, and iSi’s sales team swapped the original order for the correct length when the first choice sat too close to the rear tyre. Each cradle carries 32kg with room for a 1600mm wheelbase and 5.1 inch tyres. We install the same carrier on other vehicles, and the tow bar bike racks range has the details.
