Jayco Expanda Pop Top

This Toyota Hilux bike rack is an Extreme Duty Four Bike Rack Assembly, manufactured for Wes with two homes: a tow bar mount on his canopy equipped Hilux, and a Jayco Cross Mount on the front of the family’s Expanda Pop Top. The photos here are from the system’s first trip out, four bikes riding on the camper with the Hilux doing the towing.

A canopy changes what a bike rack has to do on a Hilux. The carrier needs to hold the bikes clear of the canopy’s rear door so gear stays accessible with everything loaded, and the tow bar mount positions the beam to do exactly that. When the Expanda comes along, the same carrier lifts across to the cross mount on the camper front, where the load splits roughly 70% to the tow ball and 30% to the axle and the whole assembly tilts with the bikes still on so the pop top and bed ends work at overnight stops. The Four Bike Carrier is rated to 84kg and carries up to 32kg per bike, which covers this family’s mix of adult mountain bikes and a pink kids’ bike with a basket. Wes installed the system himself and called it easy, which is how we design them: bolt on mounts, one carrier, no drilling.

Every system is manufactured in Mitcham, Victoria, as they have been since 2007, from Australian mild steel and stainless steel, zinc primed and finished in a textured Dulux powder coat, and covered by a lifetime warranty.
