Jayco Expanda Outback

If you want to know which Gibb River Road bike rack survives the most famous corrugations in Australia, Paul’s setup is a three month answer. His Extreme Duty Four Bike Rack Assembly rode a Jayco bolt on drawbar mount and support post on the family’s Expanda Outback through a half lap of the country, down the Gibb, out the Dampier Peninsula, with a PBC-H vehicle mount system moving the same carrier to their Ford Everest along the way.

The Gibb is where bike racks go to be found out. Hundreds of kilometres of corrugations shake fasteners loose, crack welds and turn hanging bikes into pendulums. The iSi system survives it by design: the H-Mount clamps the drawbar solid, the StrongArm post carries the load into the chassis, and each bike stands in its own frame held cradle where corrugations cannot swing it. Paul’s four bikes came home in the same condition they left in.

The 700mm beam Four Bike Carrier is rated to 84kg and carries up to 32kg per bike, with the drawbar load split roughly 70% to the ball and 30% to the axle and the whole carrier pivoting upright, loaded, when the Expanda sets up at camp.

Every system is manufactured in Mitcham, Victoria, as they have been since 2007, from Australian mild steel and stainless steel, zinc primed and finished in textured Dulux powder coat, and covered by a lifetime warranty that has seen the Gibb before.
