Tesla Model Y
Compact Two Bike Rack Assembly and PBE Vehicle Mount System
The Solution
This Tesla Model Y bike rack answers the question every Model Y owner hits eventually: the glass roof rules out roof racks, so where do the bikes go? John’s answer is a compact Two Bike Rack Assembly on a bolt on PBE vehicle mount system, fixing cleanly to the tow bar and coming off just as cleanly when it is not needed.
The 300mm compact beam is the shortest in the range, chosen deliberately for the Model Y. It keeps the bikes tight against the hatch with the weight balanced right over the tow bar, which matters twice on an EV: heavier e-bikes stay stable, and the minimal overhang keeps the aerodynamic and range penalty as small as a bike rack can be. Each bike rides in its own frame held cradle at up to 32kg, so a pair of e-bikes is comfortably within the 64kg rating.
The carrier pivots up with the bikes loaded, so the powered boot stays accessible at the trailhead, and there is no contact with the paint or glass anywhere in the system. Weekend rides or the daily run, the bikes follow the car.
Every system is manufactured in Mitcham, Victoria, as they have been since 2007, from Australian mild steel and stainless steel, zinc primed and finished in textured Dulux powder coat, and covered by a lifetime warranty that will outlast several battery packs. EVs are a growing part of our pre-configured vehicle carriers range, with towed setups in the caravan bike racks.
