Toyota Land Cruiser 200 Series

This Land Cruiser 200 fat bike rack belongs to Lach and Sal, whose idea of a holiday is an 8 hour highway run followed by days of bashing down inhospitable tracks to reach pristine south coast beaches, fat bikes aboard the whole way. Their Extreme Duty Two Bicycle Carrier rides the 200 Series tow bar on a pivot base, and their verdict was nothing short of brilliant.

Fat bikes are the awkward customers of the bike rack world: enormous tyres, wide forks, and geometry that defeats wheel clamp racks entirely. The iSi cradle system holds each bike by the frame, so tyre width is irrelevant, and the 32kg per bike rating covers the heaviest beach machines. Corrugations and washouts test a carrier’s rigidity like nothing else, and both bikes stayed firmly planted through all of it. The next chapter for this carrier is already planned: a drawbar mount for the couple’s 2011 Jayco Eagle Outback, so the same two bike assembly will swap between the Land Cruiser and the camper.
